geography with you and me

a poem by Gwevera Nightingale

zeppelins hung in the skies, around the world, so in disguise
hovered over, watching still, each leveraged rupture echoed will
sighting soldiers lock us down, it is our love, it is our sound
teaching every special pair, like you and me, of such despair
hardest friendships make for luck, separate havens, clearing muck
hope would grow in rightest ways, now, forever, lessened haze
hearts were holy, love confused, but friends are always when they choose
welcome with myself you’ll be, it’s here at first I pray you’ll see
never had I been confused, my heart did only become bruised
adventures were our right to seek; I’ll take you there, my favorite creek
plans were never something earned, except with you, because it burned
left I was, but she was too, for only blindness bled us through
all it took, all which fell, it came right back, she rang my bell
father flung, forever free, belching bellows with her tree
