Poetry Reading | cardinals all

cardinals all

a poem by Gwevera Nightingale

glamour taught the way to blend
each fell tear, a hope to end

gowns of reddest red, in deeds
the wind itself became their steeds

forth towards before, each severance
love itself would make no sense

songbirds worked and flew too quick
memory, it failed to click

mating seasons, come then gone
losing lovers each Spring's dawn

in songs themselves, their unique knacks
damaged chords churned life to blacks

crows were cowards — jays drew jeers
cardinals all, were all her peers
